CONTEMPORARY/RELEASE TECHNIQUE with VIRGINIA BROYLES
In this class, we will explore the true weight of our body and its limbs, relating and releasing into gravity, and tracking movement through different planes. We will start with somatic inquiry, a full floor warm-up, and move into phrase work that will take us in and out of the ground. Playing with speed and repetition will allow subconscious anatomical organization to kick in. Together, using release principles, we will find momentum, length, and loft with intelligent, thinking bodies.

VIRGINIA BROYLES, originally from Atlanta, is a transplant to the Bay Area. In addition to her own dance and video work, Virginia has performed with Rob Esposito, Rebecca Enghauser, Helen Pickett, Catellier Dance Projects,  Hallie Dalsimer, Alison Williams, Simpson|Stulberg Collaborations, ALTERNATIVA, Scott Wells & Dancers and is currently dancing with Bandaloop and  vîv dance company.  She has attended Impulstanz Contemporary Dance Festival, the American Dance Festival, and Bates Dance Festival.

CONTACT IMPROVISATION with BECCA DEAN + COURTNEY MORENO
Steve Paxton described contact improvisation as “spontaneous physical dialogue.” Dialogue starts with listening, and listening leads to activation. An initial exchange of non weight-sharing dances will gradually move us to softly collide with the humanness of others. We will take time to find the territory that comes out of sharing space and weight that can’t be found in a solo body. Come as you are – this class is open to all bodies.

BECCA DEAN is an artist/athlete from Colorado. She received her BFA in Modern Dance from University of Utah and has performed with Flyaway Productions, Joe Goode Performance Group, and Fog Beast. Becca has taught dance on the ground and in the air to people of all abilities from age 8 to 80.  As a member of Bandaloop, she is continually humbled and inspired by the uncompromising force and beauty of nature – it informs her dancing on the ground; allowing her to release into physics and find comfort in flight.

COURTNEY MORENO is a dancer and writer who has performed with BANDALOOP since 2005, as well as with Lizz Roman & Dancers, Christy Funsch, Fog Beast, and Chris Black. Her award-winning writing has appeared on and off stage; for more on that, visit www.courtney.moreno.com
